As one of the earliest known fluorine-based plastics, polychlortrifluorethylene is still unsurpassed in certain respects. Used preferentially in refrigeration engineering, this thermoplastic is especially suited to applications in which mechanical properties need to be retained over a wide temperature range down to near absolute zero. PCTFE’s special features are:
- Temperature range from -250°C to +180°C PCTFE shrinks only by 1% when cooled from 23°C to -250°C.
- Non-combustible
- Highly resistant to creep Comparison between PCTFE and other materials in terms of deformation under load
- Resistance to ionizing radiation and strong UV radiation
- Low permeability to gaseous and liquid media. Refer to the table
